Competition Pirineu School

Campdevànol, Girona

Project date: December 2010
Builded surface: 2.816 m2

Selected
There were three conditions wich directed the initial design decisions: a tight plot, a predetermined position of the building by the town planning and the need to raise the level of access to avoid the possibility of flooding. We opted to take these conditions as a value of the project, to insert “Pirineu” school in a beautiful natural landscape, towards the river Fresser, and to complete the urban border towards the town.

The Building stands on a basement, on which we developed the educational program. The nursery and primary areas haven an indepent functioning. The smallest children´s building is located in the Northen part of the plot, it is developed in one only floor with South-facing facades and playgrounds, looking for the best orientation, which is pleasant in such a cold climate.

We decided to place the primary zone on the east side, facing the river, on two levels, with a similar depth to the adjacent building to complete the urban block. We located the gymnasium to the South completing the definition of the set, illuminated with diffuse North light. The position of the volumes allows playgrounds are sunny most of the day and the classrooms, dining-hall, librery enjoy the best views and orientation.
